The Board, staff, clients and friends of SG Hiscock & Co (DMP Asset Management) are deeply saddened by the passing of Laurie G Cox AO over the weekend.
Laurie was a long serving Director of DMP, who helped guide the merger with SG Hiscock & Co prior to his retirement. He brought not only his extraordinary intellect and clarity of mind to the board room, but also his famous wit and dry sense of humour.
Laurie was a giant of Corporate Australia, particularly here in Melbourne. He began his career at Ian Potter & Co after graduating from Melbourne University. After many roles in the securities industry he became Executive Chairman of the Potter Warburg Group, and Director of SG Warburg Securities of London. He was also Chairman of the Australian Stock Exchange, Fortis Australia, Transurban, Smorgan Steel, and the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute as well a long serving Executive Director of the Macquarie Group.
In recent years he has dedicated his time and voice as Chairman of the Australian Prostate Centre, a research centre for the advancement of research into the treatment and cure for prostate cancer.
Our thoughts are with Laurie’s wife, Julie Ann and all of his family at this time.
